FAQ

Care & Maintenance

Luxury Faux Fur Products

  • Vacuum the stool regularly using the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner
  • Gently brush with any soft bristle hair brush, (a dog brush is ideal) or a wide toothed comb to prevent any tangling or matting. Brush and fluff carefully. If the fur becomes a little tangled, use a hairdryer and blow cool air whilst also brushing until you untangle and fluff all the fur. Repeat if necessary.
  • To smooth the fibres in the case of some matting, spray with a detangling oil or conditioner for hair. Alternatively, you could dilute a teaspoon of hair conditioner in a bottle with 2 cups of water. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and spritz the fur.
  • Lightly dry with a hairdryer on a cool setting.
  • How regularly these maintenance instructions are carried out naturally depends on level of usage.
  • As a general note, avoid direct sunlight. This stops UV damage or fading of darker shaded products
  • Attend to spills as quickly as possible by spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergent

All our luxury faux furs are fire retardant.

About Suburban Salon Sheepskin upholstered Products

General Points Relevant to All Sheepskin Products

Sheepskin is the perfect choice of cover for a footstool. Wool resists spills, dries very quickly and is mildew resistant. It is naturally fire retardant, resists static, dirt and dust and is hypo-allergenic.

  • Avoid direct sunlight where possible. This stops UV damage or fading of darker shaded products
  • Attend to spills as quickly as possible by spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergent
  • Sheepskin is a natural product that does not appreciate damp conditions, damp floors will attract black mould and make the fibres curl up. If your sheepskin does get wet then dry outside away from the sun.
  • We would suggest any small spillage should be immediately spot cleaned with a clean damp cloth.

Specific to English Sheepskin

  • To keep your English sheepskin stool in great condition, occasionally use a hard wire brush to smooth the pile.  A wire slicker brush is best and will not damage the fleece.
  • Sheepskin doesn’t like to be dirty and naturally repels dirt and dust, but if your sheepskin does get dusty you can give it a good shake and use a vacuum cleaner with attachment if required.

Specific to Mongolian Sheepskin

 Same as above, but:

  • This fur is beautiful to the touch and has a crimp to it, please do not brush it as it will turn into fluff!
  • Shake regularly to keep hair fluffy and free of dust
  • Spot clean with damp cloth. Do not apply cleaning or chemical agents
  • Allow to dry naturally in the shade
  • Avoid direct sunlight as UV rays may cause the dyed colour to fade or discolour

 Are your Sheepskins 100% natural?

Absolutely. We only offer natural products. All our sheepskins are 100% ethically sourced as by-products of the meat industry.

Cow Hide Rug - Crease Removal

The cowhides are quite an awkward shape to post, so whilst I always take care packing the hides, when they are initially unwrapped, there will be some folding creases in the rug. Over time, the cowhide creases should come out naturally, but if you want to remove them immediately, you can do this easily with a domestic steam iron, a towel and a wet cloth.

Put your cowhide on the floor over the top of the towel, with the right side facing down, (the towel is to preserve your floor). Put the wet cloth over the cowhide rug and work the iron over the wrinkle. Work quickly and to smooth out the creases – you can use the steam function if required. This is also a good technique for removing dirty marks or stains.

Sometimes, this procedure may not remove persistent creases from the cow hide and the crease may be a result of the way it’s been dried after tanning. Please remember, a cow hide rug is a natural product and branding iron markings, small marks are a normal component of these unique pieces. Each cow hide we sell is unique and when cared for correctly, will last a lifetime.
